Collaborating with Manguning Studio, Chef Syrco Bakker has created an architectural design for Syrco BASÈ inspired by the daily life traditions of Bali. Rooted deeply in the island’s enduring agricultural practices, these traditions have long been revered not only as sources of art and spirituality but also as celebrated ways of life worldwide. Drawing from this rich heritage, our architectural design pays homage to the symbolism of the Balinese tree, representing generosity, sacredness, spirituality, and tranquility, with inspiration drawn from every aspect of its trunk, roots, and leaves.
The roots symbolize the earth and soil, anchoring our design and connecting it deeply to the land. They signify our reverence for the land that nurtures our culture and traditions. The trunk, representing culture and daily life, forms the solid core of our design, encapsulating the richness of Balinese community life and the daily rhythms that shape our existence. The leaves signify a spiritual journey, adding a sense of transcendence and connecting our design with the spiritual essence of Balinese culture. These three integral components act as our compass, guiding the architecture and moodboard into Goa (cave), Jineng (rice barn), and Udeng (traditional Balinese headwear), infusing these spaces with the essence of the Balinese tree, a symbol of great significance in our culture.
Syrco BASÈ offers contemporary culinary delights inspired by the traditions of Bali, Indonesia, and Asia, leading to a harmonious blend of tastes that complement the building’s environment.
